Cities Alliance [UCLG Decalogue]

Description

Cities Alliance is a global partnership fighting urban poverty and supporting cities to deliver sustainable development and improve the wellbeing, health and livelihoods of the urban poor through access to basic services. Since 1999, it has engaged with national and local governments to improve governance, public service delivery and resilience through the improved and inclusive management of urbanization. It is hosted by UNOPS and within its 23 member organizations including national governments, civil society, and international organizations and UN agencies, local and regional governments are represented by UCLG, its section dedicated to metropolises, C40, ICLEI and CGLF. Details

During the transition from the MDGs to the SDGs, Cities Alliance was part of the successful global advocacy movement to include a stand alone goal for cities (Goal 11) in the 2030 Agenda. The campaign also called for the urban dimension to be anchored as a cross-cutting issue in other goals, such as poverty eradication, gender equality and women’s empowerment, reducing inequality, climate action, and promoting equitable economic growth.
